Hans C. Anderson's fairy tales have clear bearings of himself, for the major types of characters therein have a close relationship with his own experiences. The Daughter of the Sea is employed as a case study in this paper and the principles of narratology are adopted to analyze his character - classifying modes and their deep grammatical structures. Through the analysis, the emotions that Anderson expresses in his fairy tales are explained.
