唐宋笔记中“挨”、“媪”二词实别有义。“挨”以“靠近、靠扰”义为中心,在不同组合中可分别理解为“挤、擦”、“冒犯”、“滋扰”以至于“调戏”等义;“媪”可用来作为对妇女的通称,且为此一义时,其使用范围也不局限于北方方言区。

In the jottings made in Tang and Sung dynasties, the two words ai (挨) and ao (媪) have different meanings from the present. There, Ai (挨) means approach and, in different collocations, it can be interpreted as jostle, rub, offend, disturb or even take liberties with a woman; ao (媪) is there a general term for women, the use of which was not restricted to the North China Dialect Region.
