香港的"占中"行动由行政长官普选争议触发,涉及到特区管治权的争夺,但其深层原因则源于国际、内地和香港环境变化所衍生的诸多矛盾。中国的迅速崛起、西方对中国崛起的疑虑、内地经济发展对香港形成的竞争威胁、两地同胞来往频繁所引起的人际间的摩擦、港人对政治社会和经济状况的不满、港人的身份认同"危机"、香港年轻人的政治躁动和反对派的夺权意图都在不同程度上为"占中"行动提供主、客观条件。

Hong Kong's ' Occupy Central' protest was triggered by the dispute over the universal suffrage of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and was related to the struggle for control over the region. Nevertheless, the deep-seated causes of theprotest stem from the drastic changes in the international scene, China's Mainland and Hong Kong and the conflicts they engender. The rapid rise of China, the West 's anxiety about China's rise,the competitive challenge of the Mainland's economic resurgence to Hong Kong, the growing conflict between Hongkongers and Mainlanders arising from increasing interpersonal contacts,Hongkongers'discontent with the existent social, political and economic conditions, Hongkongers '' identity' crisis, political restlessness of the HK younger generation and the attempt to gain political power by the political opposition are subjective and objective factors that contributed to the occurrence of the 'Occupy Central' protest.
