融合因素与备受争议的共同闽语音系(修订版)（英文）

Convergence as a Factor in the Formation of a Controversial Common Mǐn Phonological Configuration(Revised Version)

众所周知,罗杰瑞先生是闽语语音比较与语音构拟的创建者。他构拟的原始闽语音系到目前为止仍是分析闽语语音关系的基本样板。就是不完全同意此系统细节的学者们还习惯以它为出发点来讨论闽方言历史和分类。虽然如此,到了晚年,他对自己构拟的原始闽语音系并不感到十分满意,因此从二十世纪九十年代起就开始对原始闽语音系进行十分彻底地修改,最终提出一种全新的拟音系统,称之为'共同闽语'。此系统未曾正式发表,幸亏保留在其遗留的档案里,档案数据现为复旦大学中文系资料室所收藏。罗先生曾在私信里提出对闽语形成过程的一种全新设想,认为闽方言群可能并不是古代汉语的直接演变产物,而是东汉末年到魏晋时代的一些古江南方言融合同化的结果。文章介绍罗先生的这些新看法与他的思考,同时也增加笔者的一些初步设想和意见。

Jerry Norman is recognized as the founder of the field of comparative Min phonological reconstruction. His well-nown reconstructed proto-system, called Proto-Min, remains today the standard comparative framework for the phonological analysis of the Min family. In the last decades of his life Norman completely revised his Proto-Min reconstruction, calling the revision Common Min. This system is exemplified in his posthumous papers but remains unpublished. Additionally, in private correspondence he also broached the idea that the Common Min system might have evolved through a process of convergence among several old dialects which predated the Common Min stage. In the present paper we introduce Norman’s Common Min system and use it in various ways to assess his convergence theory for the formation of Common Min.
