'躡手躡腳'一語的形成,主要跟'捻''捏''攝'與'躡'的互用,漢語的口語化趨勢,以及人們的認知方式有關。它雖始見於清代文獻,但其相類的四字格成語'斂手束腳'在宋代就已出現。大量的語言材料證明,'躡手躡腳'及相類的四字格成語'捻手捻腳''攝手攝腳'等本來是'斂手斂腳'的意思。這些成語雖在某些語句中既可以釋爲'輕手輕腳',亦可釋爲'斂手斂腳',但在另一些語句中卻只能被理解爲'斂手斂腳'。
The formation of'躡手躡腳'is mainly connected with the interoperability among the words such as'捻''捏''攝''躡',Chinese colloquial tendency and people’s cognitive style.Though'躡手躡腳'began to appear in the Qing dynasty’s documents,its related four-character idiom '斂手束腳'has been attested in the Song Dynasty.A large number of language materials proved that the original meaning of'躡手躡腳'and its relevant phrases such as'捻手捻腳'and'攝手攝腳'is'斂手斂腳'.These phrases can be interpreted as either'輕手輕腳'or'斂手斂腳'in some sentences,but can only be regarded as'斂手斂腳'in others.
