A Study of Conceptual Metaphors in Xi’s and Obama’s Speeches in 2011 and 2014 APEC

本论文概念隐喻理论为基础,以习近平和奥巴马在2011和2014亚太经合会上的讲话为分析文本,初步探讨了其演讲中的主要概念隐喻(战争隐喻、旅程隐喻、装置隐喻、戏剧隐喻和拟人隐喻),并且尝试比较了两位领导人概念隐喻使用的异同和其主要对应的功能。希望本文对概念隐喻及其功能的分析可以帮助阅读者更好更深地理解政治演讲这一生活中常见的语言使用现象。

The thesis discusses the main categories of conceptual metaphors(war metaphor,journey metaphor,mechanism metaphor,drama metaphor and personification metaphor) in Xi Jinping and Obama’s speeches in 2011 and 2014 APEC.As a supplementation,The functions of metaphors are discussed at different levels.The similarities and discrepancies of the metaphor use between the two leaders are also covered here.It is also hoped that the research could help the audience understand the speeches by explicating the features and functions of conceptual metaphors.
