Not Everything That Counts Can be Counted——Base on Four World-Class University Rankings

世界一流大学的界定没有统一的标准,世界一流大学的建设都会参照一些著名的世界一流大学排行榜。本文对四大排行榜:国际高等教育咨询机构(QS)的QS世界大学排行榜(QSWUR),美国新闻与世界报道(U.S.News)的全球最佳排行榜(BGU),泰晤士高等教育(THE)的THE世界大学排行榜(THEWUR)和上海交通大学一流大学大学研究中心(CWUC)的世界大学学术排行榜(ARWU)的评价标准和权重进行简要对比分析。发现这些大学排行榜虽然对世界一流大学的建设有一定的借鉴意义,但注重对可量化的指标的衡量而忽视了一些难以量化的质性内涵,而大学发展的重要内涵非均能量化。

The word-class university haven't have a standard definition. And the contribution of word-class university refers to some famous world university rankings. The following passage analyzes and makes the comparison of the criteria and the weights of four world university rankings,the QS University Rankings,the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings,the Times Higher Education World University rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities of the Center for World-Class Universities. The result shows that though the university rankings have contributions,them focus more on the countable criteria and may ignore some important contents difficult to be measured. And not all the important development connotations can be measured.
