Teaching and Research of Shakespeare in the Universities during the First Half of the 20th Century in China

'莎士比亚'课程在20世纪上半叶高校外语系教学与研究中占有重要位置。这段时期中国大学开设'莎士比亚'课程非常普遍,莎剧成为该时期高校外语系必开课程和常备课程。开设莎剧课程的目的是使学生获得莎剧知识,为造就莎学学者和英国文学研究者奠定基础。莎作教学进入体制化的中国现代大学,对于莎士比亚在中国的传播、影响起到了非常重要的作用,为莎学研究储备了人才,亦为中国莎学进一步繁荣和走向世界奠定了最初基础。

The Shakespeare courses,in the universities during the first half of the 20th century,played a very important role both in teaching and research at foreign language departments.It was general for universities to offer Shakespeare courses,which were made by some foreign language departments as compulsory courses,with the purpose of making students understand Shakespeare and training scholars majoring in Shakespeare and English literature.The teaching of Shakespeare plays is prevalent in the curriculum of contemporary Chinese universities,which is crucial to the spread of Shakespeare in China.It simultaneously prepared talents for Shakespeare study,and laid a primary foundation for the future Shakespeare study in China.
