Leprosy infection in Tibet has a long pe riod history,historical data have recorded lep rosy as"dragon infection "in 617 - 650 B. C.There has no leprosy prevention and treat ment setup and professional doctors in pre liberation Tibet, leprosy patients got no medi cal treatment and had suffered from social dis crimination and persecution After liberation,under the deep concern of the Party and the People’s Government, Jiangqu Hospital of Ti bet Autonomous Region was established in Nov 17. 1965 and especially accepted leprosy patients. From the seventies, Mangkang. Luo Iong. Chaya . Dingqing . Bianba, Longzi. Jiacha .Milin. Lang . Jiali . Linzhi . Biru . Suo and Dingri Countiesy established successively 14 leprosy villages(hospitals). Basic work of leprosy pre vention and treatment was strengthened.More than 1800 cases of leprosy patients had been treated (55% of the total number of lep rosy patients in Tibet). Through 30 years of positive prevention and treatment, the leprosy epidemic region had been reduced to 28 Coun ties and 64 villages at present,reduced to 50.88 % and 81. 29 % respectively. The morbidity rate of leprosy has been reduced to 0. 05ki in 1994. The assistance of Internationel Leprosy Organization is reported also in this article.
