从艺术产业视角评估香港巴塞尔艺术展（英文）

Assessing the Impact of Art Basel in Hong Kong: An Arts Industry Perspective

巴塞尔艺术展在世界各地向来得到众多人士追捧,近年在香港更成为城中热门话题。然而,尽管受到公众欢迎,不少艺术评论家批评巴塞尔艺术展的商业运作模式某程度上牺牲了此活动的艺术价值。本论文将采用'文化产业'或'艺术产业'的视角,配合实证研究,以评估巴塞尔艺术展于艺术世界建构'商业网络'在香港对当地艺术收藏家、艺术品经销商、艺术家和观众的影响。研究发现巴塞尔艺术展作为一个成功的艺术展览和有效营销渠道,在艺术产业充当了正面角色。然而,由于巴塞尔艺术展在培育艺术家和观众上的成效有限,笔者不建议巴塞尔艺术展以塑造当地文化生态系统的主导力量的名义来传播。故此,文化政策制定者该明确定义巴塞尔艺术展在香港艺术界的角色。另外,巴塞尔艺术展的策展团队更可以考虑通过加强公共和非营利艺术机构以及艺术教育组织的合作,提升艺术展的功能,以支持本地艺术产业。

Art Basel has been a well-visited form of the art fair and a hot topic of discussion in Hong Kong.In contrast with its popularity with the public,most art critics critique its commercialized manner of operation,which has sacrificed artistic values.This research adopts a'cultural industry'or'arts industry'perspective,coupled with empirical work,to systematically assess the impact of Art Basel in Hong Kong.It conceives the art world as being constructed by'networks'and evaluates the impact of the art fair on local art collectors,art dealers,artists,and audience.The finding is that Art Basel is a positive component of art industry,serving as an effective instrument of art exhibition and marketing.In the meantime,given its limited effect in nurturing artists and audience at the end of art production,Art Basel is not suggested to be advocated as the dominant form of art fair or a leading force to shape the local cultural ecosystem.Cultural policy makers are advised to clearly define the role of Art Basel in Hong Kong’s art industry.Alternatively,Art Basel organizers may consider upgrading the functionality of the fair to underpin art production through a partnership with public and non-profit art institutions and art education organizations.
