20世纪意大利设计团体"孟菲斯"的设计以及"后现代"对装饰的复兴和重视,对中国当代设计具有极大的启示作用。尤其是建立在中国传统装饰元素基础上的所谓"中国元素"设计风格,一直以来都缺少对当代文化的体现和响应。所谓"中国风格"的当代设计,要么沿袭传统的装饰样式,在中国传统图案中亦步亦趋;要么一味崇尚西方的"现代主义"或"后现代主义"语言,不能为大众所接受,将自己束之高阁。当代设计必须在当代文化的语境中吸收营养,寻找出路,并适应当代的审美趣味,否则,中国的设计只能在历史的断裂中,在西方设计艺术成果的阴影下亦步亦趋,永远找不到出路。
