On Hedges as Category Modifiers:A Contrastive Study of English and Chinese

模糊限制是模糊语言研究的一个重要对象,它的存在从语言内部揭示了范畴界限的模糊性。本文针对模糊限制语的一个主要语义功能——充当范畴变动语,对这类模糊限制语进行了重新分类。在此基础上,比较了它们在英汉两种语言中表达式,并分析了其在两种语言中改变范畴结构的具体作用方式。

Hedges,as an important subject of fuzzy language study,servr as the evidence,from within the language itself,to reveal that category boundaries are fuzzy.This paper focuses on the study of one of hedges'major semantic functions——category modification.Based on the modified classification of hedges as category modifiers,the paper compared their linguistic realizations in English with those in Chinese,and discusses the specific ways im which they exert their influence on restructuring categories in the two languages.
