西部地区是我国世居民族多、宗教传播广的地区。正确认识宗教,了解宗教对西部各族人民的影响及其特殊作用,积极采取措施,加强对宗教事务的管理,使宗教与社会主义社会相应,对贯彻落实十六大精神和"三个代表"重要思想,促进西部大开发,全面建设小康社会,加快推进社会主义现代化建设都具有重大意义。
