Historical Development of the Interrogative “F+VP”Pattern in Chinese Dialects

"F+VP"式疑问句是现代汉语方言中的一种比较特殊的句式。其源头主要有二:一是上古时期所存在的三种表疑问的问句形式①VPneg②VP+Prt…③VPnegVP,至中古时期,呈现出句式A4:F+VPneg+(Prt);二是上古时期另一个主要表示反诘而非表示询问的句式F+VP+(prt),这类问句成为现代汉语方言"F+VP"疑问句式的另一源头。

Interrogative'F + VP'pattern is a particular sentence structure in modern Chinese dialects. This form has two historical sources. The first is the three interrogatives of the very ancient times,VPneg,VP + Prt… and VPnegVP,which became A4:F + VPneg +( Prt) in the middle ages. The other is F + VP +( prt),a rhetorical question pattern in the very ancient times.
