余华作品中表现出的冷酷、残忍在他甫一出道就被广泛关注。对于这个世界的叙述,人们最常用的形容词是冷静、冷漠,是"情感的零度"。所谓的冷静、冷漠的形容有些用力过猛,而以"平静"来代替似乎更为妥当。从"平静自然地呈现‘自然’"这一角度,把余华的创作与帕慕克所谓的"天真的小说家"加以沟通,从而实现对于作家创作心性的初步把握。作为天真小说家的余华,从成名作《十八岁出门远行》到《第七天》一直坚持"叙述"在小说创作中的主体地位,甚至认为"叙述"就是小说本身,所以可称他为"天真的叙述者"。

Yu Hua's cold-blood cruelty narration drew much attention as soon as he published his first novels.Merciless,indifferent,and zero emotional are the popular words used to describe his stories of the ruthless world.We think these words are over dramatized,and tranquil is the better word.His tranquil and unaffected account of what was natural makes him eligible as a'simple novelist',a term coined by Pamuk.The simple narrator is dominant from Yu Hua's first well received novel,Leaving Home at 18,to The Seventh Day,and he even believes that story is narration in essence.Therefore,we conclude he is a'simple narrator'.
