This paper gives an IC(immediate constituent)analysis on the"zhizhang fensui ji",which is a typical example representing the OVN compounds in Mandarin.It assumed that the"[[zhizhang fensui]ji]"should be the right structural analysis in contrast with"[zhizhang[fensui ji]]"by reviewing the characteristics of all OVN and VON compounds,the ability of the insertion of"de"in OVN compounds and the embedding OVN compounds in Mandarin.In the final part of the paper,a brief discussion is given to underscore the importance of IC analysis in formal syntax.
