The paper is the interpretation of the preface of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,including the following six aspects:the origin of the Chinese characters;the regulations of Chinese characters;the source and schools of Chinese characters from the Shang Dynasty and the Zhou Dynasty to the Western Han Dynasty;the Guwen(Ancient Writings)hidden in the wall of Confucius's house;the loss of the Chinese characters and the Confucian classics;the meaning of creating Shuo Wen Jie Zi.
