《谐隐》是刘勰《文心雕龙》"有韵之文"的最后一篇,按"大一统幽默学"观点,"谐"、"隐"应该属于幽默的范畴,是幽默的两种表现方式。而这两种方式或文体是刘勰对幽默文学的理论提炼,此篇通过对"谐"和"隐"两类文学样式的产生原因、历史演变、功能利弊等多方面论述,告诫世人"谐"、"隐"文辞,"会义适时,颇益讽诫。空戏滑稽,德音大坏",因而强调"谐"、"隐"的社会引导功能、政治效应和讽诫作用,这正是刘勰心中的幽默观,也是他作此篇的用意所在。

'Jocularity and insinuation'is the last prosodic essay in Liu Xie's The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons.Broadly speaking,'jocularity'and 'insinuation'can both be classified as the category of humor.In his essay of'Jocularity and insinuation,'Liu Xie illustrated the motivations,historical change,and favorable and unfavorable functions of the two genres of humor literature.Liu emphasized the roles of social guidance,political effect and persuasion played by jocularity and insinuation,which is also Liu Xie's view of humor.
