扬州修脚刀的概念有狭义和广义之分。狭义上的修脚刀,特指以专门修脚工具为媒介的扬州传统修脚技艺;广义的修脚刀,泛指以修脚刀为代表的扬州沐浴文化。狭义的修脚刀以治疗保健为宗旨,与中医相伴相生;广义的沐浴文化则以沐为礼,以浴为德,具有强烈的仪式感,并在借鉴、吸收、融合外来文化的基础上完善更新。扬州修脚刀的技艺传承,除了传承技术和艺德,还要更新观念,重塑文化,与时俱进,培养人才,加强监管。

Foot-repaired knife in Yangzhou has the narrow and broad senses. In the narrow sense,it means a general term for traditional foot-repaired techniques in Yangzhou,with specific foot-repaired tools as the mediums,while in the generalized sense; foot-repaired knife in Yangzhou means Yangzhou bath culture with footrepaired Knife as the representative. The foot-repaired knife in the narrow sense is in the purpose of treatment and health care,accompanied with traditional Chinese medicine,while the bath culture in the broad sense has strong ceremonial significance,and updates on the basis of imitating,assimilating and mixing external cultures. The inheritance of foot-repaired knife technique in Yangzhou needs to update the ideas,reshape the culture,keep pace with the times,cultivate talents and strengthen the supervision in addition to the inheritance of its technique and artistic morality.
