Interpreting the Ways of Naming Novels

中国小说命名的历史形态有三种典型类型:叙史型、括意型、提示型。叙史型重故事情节、历史事件的要略概述,括意型重作品思想意义的提炼概括,提示型重作品信息提示与感觉点染。三种类型在标题与文本内容、与读者参与、与阅读经验类型、与语言生成方式等方面都有着明显差异,是进入小说文本的不同姿态,是小说历史形态的标志性符号。

Historically speaking, there are three typical ways to give a name to a Chinese novel: the history narration, the theme summarization and the prompt of the information of the work. The first way means to narrate one of the plots or the historic incident in the name of the novel. The second way means to summarize the theme of the work. The third way means to point out some of the information or the work or the reader's feeling when one reads the work . Different naming-way determines different content and language construction of the work, even different types of reading-experience of the reader and degree of one's participation into the novel. It also determines how the reader enters into the work. The three naming-ways construct the historical signs of the work.
