The Comment on Wang Xianqian's Activities and Thoughts of Compilation and Publishment

王先谦是近代著名的编辑出版家。从业50年,不仅编著刊刻了大量书籍,而且倡建、创办了南菁书局、思贤书局、虚受堂3家在近代颇有影响的官私出版机构。由于其编辑思想的保守落后(为了维护清王朝的统治、振兴儒家学说和个人的名利),最终妨碍了他向现代出版人的转化。

Wang Xianqian was a famous publisher in modern times, and he was engaged in publishment for 50 years. Not only did he write and publish lots of books, but also he founded three public ownership and private presses:Nanjing Press, Sixian Press and Xushoutang Press, which made great influence in modern times. But because of his conservative compilatory thought —— preserving the reign of Qing Dynasty and his own fame and promoting the Confucianism, he was failed in becaming a modern publisher.
