In Takeo Arishima's masterpiece A Woman,Youko, the heroine is depicted as a new type of female——rebellious, free from social conventions, but different from the career woman. In the course of her approaching final destruction her purity and greed are embodied respectively in her two younger sisters Sadayo and Aiko, who function as a mirror, reflecting Youko's whole life.
