The paper thinks that the key point of learning English well is to learn phonetics well and that phonetics is one of the difficult points in teaching and learning. It compares English with Chinese by analyzing the similarities and differences in sounds, phonemes, syllabus, tones, rhythms and allophones etc, and summarizes some problems found in teaching practice in order to distinguish the differences and links between the two languages, and to improve English phonetic study.
