This paper attaches importance to the fundamental system and principal characteristics of Mr. Xu Beihong's thoughts on the education of fine arts. It argues that Xu's theory in this regard needs new understanding and redefinition. As his thinking is not that held by individuals, it should not be simplistically approved or denied in contemporary education of fine arts; new room of development should be offered to his ideas with the progress of finearts education.
