New Developments in Latin American Party Politics

Since the 1990s party polities in Latin America has been subjected to the following new developments: (1)The importance of political parties has been growing steadily in the political arena; (2) The influence of traditional parties in some Latin American countries has been declining; (3)Several left-wing patties in the region have gained wider popularity; (4)It seems that the rules of the game in Latin American party politics have become more and more orderly; and (5) one of the majorchallenges facing Latin American party politics is the so-called “democratic fatigue.
