Guo Moruo and His Political Mentality in the "Seventeen Years

在建国后十七年新中国的知识分子群体中,郭沫若作为有着五四背景的“左翼”知识分子,其私下的思想言论与时代的政治内容似有断裂之处,这为今天的人们在多个层面解读郭沫若提供了可能。但是,如果深入到郭沫若政治心态的内部,我们将会发现,作为有着五四“自由主义”思想背景的“左翼”知识分子,其政治价值取向恰恰是理性和信仰层面双重选择的结果。其盲从与崇拜也深深根植于传统文化心态之中。因此,对断裂的颠覆性解读,就可能不仅误读了郭沫若,而且,还将导致对近现代史上中国政治文化走向的肤浅化理解。这显然是对历史的悲剧意蕴缺乏深刻领悟的结果。

Amongst the intelligentsia in the seventeen years after the founding of new China, Guo Moruo, a 'Left -wing' intellectual with May 4th Movement background, and whose thoughts and remarks in private seem to show a break from the political substances of the time, provides people today with the possibility of interpreting him at different layers. But, as we enter his inner political mentality, we are to find that as a 'Left - wing intellectual with the ideological background of 'liberalism' of May 4th Movement, Guo's orientation of political values is none other the result of his double choice on the layers of rationalism and faith. His blind following and worship are also deeply rooted in the cultural mentality of tradition. Therefore, the subversive interpretation of the so - called 'break' may not only lead to a misinterpretation of Guo, but also a skin - deep knowledge of the orientation of political culture in contemporary Chinese history.
