Objective To investigate the effects of water content of sodalime (Gangyu,China)and baralyme on the breakdown products of sevoflurane in a closed reaction chamber at 50 ℃.Methods dried baralyme, dried sodalime, baralyme and sodalime were placed in the closed chamber(160 ml),which were placed separately into the water bath at 50 ℃.Sevoflurane(400 μl)was dropped in the closed chamber.400 μl sampling gas was taken for the measurements at 5,15,30,45,60 min and every 30 min until 360 min thenafter. Two gaschromatographies were equipped for detection of breakdown products of sevoflurane. Results No carbon monoxide was detected in the four groups.Compound A and B were detected in sodalime group.Sevoflurane was breakdown rapidly, and compound A was appeared in the four groups. The intense of the reaction was in an order of dried baralyme>dried sodalime >baralyme>sodalime.Compound A was found in an order of dried baralyme >dried sodalime>baralyme>sodalime, and Compound B was dried baralyme<baralyme<dried sodalime. Compound C,D,E were also appeared in dried baralyme, baralyme and died sodalime. Conclusion Sevoflurane breakdown happens vigorously in dried carbon dioxide absorbents in the closed reaction chamber at 50 ℃.Water from sodalime or baralyme can reduce the breakdown of sevoflurane in the closed chamber at 50 ℃.Sodalime shows smaller products than baralyme.
