A Review on Block-printed Buddhist Scriptures of Yangzhou in Qing Dynasty

清代扬州刻经兴起于近代风云变幻之时,是近代佛经刊刻史的重要组成部分,建立了江北刻经处、扬州藏经院等著名机构,涌现出了郑学川、许灵虚等代表人物。扬州刻经的版片、目录、刻书等数据尚有大量遗存,通过整理和研究可以更好地为佛经版片的保护和利用服务,弘扬扬州雕版技艺与文化。

From the late Qing Dynasty to the volatile modern times,Yangzhou had come forth a great trend of Buddhist scripture block-printing. This trend constitutes an important part of the history of Buddhist scripture block-printing in modern China. Some important institutions,such as the Jiangbei Buddhist Scripture Press and Yangzhou Depository of Buddhist Scriptures,were founded during this period. At the same time,Zheng Xuechuan,Xu Lingxu and some other representatives of this industry had achieved their reputation in Yangzhou. A large amount of wood blocks,catalogues and block-printed scriptures are still preserved now in Yangzhou. Compiling and study on such documents can better help the protection and utilization of block-printed Buddhist scriptures,so as to publicize the block-printing art and culture of Yangzhou.
