Chinese-English technical translation criteria based on the Skopos theory and Technical Communication theories

翻译目的论评价译文的基本标准是'适宜性',指译文要适合翻译的目的要求,完成其在译语情境和文化中的交际功能。科技翻译的目的在于有效地进行跨文化的专业信息交流。根据专业交际学的理论,科技信息交流的目的是告知与劝说。要达到有效告知和劝说的目的,科技译文必须做到三个'适合':1)适合科技英语的修辞模式,以便于译文读者理解;2)适合读者的文化背景和思维方式,以便于读者能够按照译文指导完成指定任务;3)适合科技英语的文件设计方式,以便于读者迅速查阅信息。

The basic criterion of Skopos theory in translation is“adequacy”,which means that the translated version should adapt to the purpose of translation and complete the communicative function in the culture and context of the target language.The purpose of technical translation is to communicate technical information effectively in an intercultural context.According to the theory of Technical Communication,the major purposes of scientech communication are to inform and persuade.To achieve these goals effectively,the translated version should be adequate in three aspects:1)adequacy in rhetoric of Technical English,so that the audience can understand the version easily;2)adequacy in the audience’s cultural contexts and thinking mode,so that the audience can follow it easily to complete the required task;3)adequacy in the document design of Technical English,to enable the audience to find the required information quickly.
