College admission is very challenging and important, which has direct influence on educational quality of a university. The University of California adopted a comprehensive review policy of undergraduate admissions in 2001 that requires all campuses employ multiple criteria to examine the full range of an applicant’s academic and personal achievements and likely contributions to the campus community, viewed in the context of the opportunities and challenges that the applicant has faced.Student participation in extracurricular activities is one of many indicators that are used to evaluate student noncognitive skills.Using admissions data to examine validity of this indicator and importance of evaluating students’ participation in extracurricular activities, the study shows that the more activities students participate in,the stronger their non-cognitive skills are and the more likely they will succeed at college.
