On the Subject Orientation of Legal English

法律英语是以普通英语为基础,在立法、司法及其他与法律相关的活动中形成和使用的具有法律专业特点的语言。时代的发展和社会的需求催生了法律英语学科。我国的法律英语学科起始于20世纪70年代末,经历了起步和形成、探索与多元发展、快速发展与独立学科地位形成等3个发展阶段。经过近40年的发展,法律英语学科体系日趋成熟,逐渐显现出独立学科性质。法律英语是一个开放的学科体系,其内涵丰富,可从教学目标、教学理念、学科体系、教学安排、教学方法、教学原则和教学评估等方面界定法律英语学科内涵。

Legal English is a language with legal professional characteristics based on general English,which is formed and used in legislation,judicature and other activities related to law.The development of the times and the need of society have spawned the birth of the subject of legal English.The subject of legal English in China started in the late 1970s,and has gone through three stages,namely,the beginning and the formation stage,the exploration and the diversified development stage,the rapid development and the independent discipline status formation stage.After nearly four decades of development,the discipline system of legal English has become fairly mature,and gradually shows the nature of an independent discipline.Legal English is an open subject system with rich connotations.It can define the connotation of legal English from the aspects of teaching objectives,teaching ideas,course system,teaching arrangement,teaching methods,teaching principles and teaching evaluation.
