With the non-nociceptive method,we observedthe functional state of the cardiovascular system of32 cases of hypertension before and after acupunc-ture.Before acupuncture,each index for the hyper-tension group was distinctly different from that ofthe control group.The arterial pressure mean,totalsystematic peripheral resistance,and the cardiacwork index of the hypertension group was higher,but the stroke volume,minute volume as well ascardiac index were lower than that of the normal.After giving acupuncture treatment ten times,the arterial pressure mean of the hypertension patients decreased distenctly(P<0.05).The decrease ofperipheral resistance was remarkable.These results suggested that the blood pressureof the hypertension patients could be decreased bythe acupuncture treatment,and the decrease of thetotal systematic peripheral resistance after acupunc-ture might be the causative factor of this effect.It has a good and systematic influence on the functions of cardiovascular system.
