On the Differentiation of “Claiming Responsibility” and “Acknowledging Responsibility”

国内媒体在涉报道国外恐怖袭击或转载外电报道时,惯用恐袭组织声称"对袭击负责"的表述,与英文responsibility原意不符。在比较分析汉英两种词典对"责任"和"负责"的义项后,认为英汉词典义项不足,注释不清晰,加上媒体工作者的"翻译腔",导致了"负责"一词的误用和滥用。媒体应更改汉语表述为"发动了袭击";英汉词典也应增加义项,明确汉语注释。

When the domestic media reports or reprinting on foreign terrorist attacks, the expression of"responsible for the attack" is claimed by the terrorist organization, which is not in accordance with the original intention of the English. In a comparative analysis of two kinds of Chinese-English dictionary meanings of the"responsibility" and "be responsible", the paper argues that the items and their explanation listed in the dictionary, as well as the misunderstanding of the media workers, lead to the abuse and misuse of the word"responsibility". Media ought to change the Chinese expression to "strike an attack" and the relevant items and their Chinese explanations to the dictionary.
