The Wetland of Wonders

在浙江东南黄金海岸线上,有一个名叫玉环的海岛县。把玉环所属的海域和大小岛屿加在一起,面积约2300平方公里,而真正的陆地面积却只有378平方公里,相当于俄罗斯文豪列夫·托尔斯泰的私人庄园。据《太平寰宇记》载,玉环的县名,源自海岛的奇观:"晨雾绕岛,形状如环;上有流水,洁白如玉",多么浪漫、多么富有诗情画意!

At the beginning of the new century,Yuhuan people initiated a project called "Reclamation of Lands and Storage of Fresh Water".Outside the Xuanmen Bay in the west,a dam of 108 kilometers was set up to stop the rising tide and the crime wave caused by typhoon.Through this way,an internal lake came into being and its surrounding land became man-made wetlands. Then,fresh water from neighboring counties or cities was introduced to desalt the water and the land around Xuanmen Bay. When the water level of the bay became high enough,the sluice of the dam would be unlocked to let the salt water go.After several years’ operation and circulation,water around Xuanmen Bay became fresh,the land became soft and a wetland of 65000 mu was created by Yuhuan people.
