During the Longqing and Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, led by Qi Jiguang,a famous anti-Japanese general, over 3000 Yiwu soldiers left their hometown for the north to build the Great Wall in deep forests. They never imagined that they would no longer return to their native land. They multiplied at the foot of the Great Wall and told their descendants that "Our ancestors are Yiwu people of Zhejiang" from generation to generation. They asked their offspring to build tombs towards the southeast, the direction of their hometown.400 years later, time can hardly cut off the deep love for the hometown. In recent years,Yiwu relatives between the north and the south strengthen their communication. In 2014,the State Bureau of Cultural Relics approved the descendants of Yiwu soldiers and technicians of Beijing Ancient Architecture Research Institute to work together to start the restoration project of the Banchangyu session of the Great Wall.
