在我国五千年的灿烂历史中,毛笔在书法、绘画及作文、赋诗等方面,都立下了不朽的功勋。笔墨纸砚,笔居其首;琴棋书画,笔涉其二;一部华夏史,笔功不可没。《古今图书集成》称:'治世之功,莫尚于笔,能举万物之形,序自然之情……实天地之伟器也。'中国的毛笔也是举世无双的书写工具。古埃及的芦管笔,欧洲的羽毛笔等早已退出历史的舞台,而毛笔从漫长的历史岁月中走来,至今兴盛不衰,足见其强大的生命力。素有'毛颖之技甲天下'之称的湖笔,是毛笔中的佼佼者,代表了毛笔的正宗。
