Southeast Asia is an important region where China's diplomacy can manifest greatly. Specifically, it could enable China to know more about ASEAN's diplomatic policy of balancing out the great powers. There have been numerous ways of understanding the historical origin of ASEAN's diplomatic strategies of balancing great powers. The author of the paper presents an analysis on the origin of ASEAN's diplomacy of balancing out great powers in historical, ideological and realistic perspectives.
