Enrichment and Development of the Theory on Contradictions among the People by Jiang Zemin

新形势下人民内部矛盾是在深化改革、扩大开放过程中,由于我国社会主要矛盾、党内官僚主义和腐败现象等多种因素造成的,并呈现出一些新特点。正确区分和处理人民内部矛盾事关我国社会稳定和国家长治久安。要综合运用经济的、法治的和思想教育的方法,紧紧依靠最广大人民群众,着力解决好涉及人民群众切身利益的、突出的、反映强烈的问题,把人民内部矛盾解决在萌芽状态。

The contradictions among the people in the new stage have been caused by various factors like major social contradictions, deepening of reforms, expanding of opening up, bureaucracy and corrupt dealings within the Party, showing some new features. Correct distinction and handling of the contradictions among the people concerns the social stability and long period of peace and order in our country. We must use various methods like that of economic means, legal administration and ideological education, closely rely on the broad masses of the people, make great efforts in better solving the outstanding matters concerning the private interests of the people and arising strong complaints by them so as to settle the contradictions among the people in their embryonic stage.
