Brief Discussion on Major Connotation of the Ethical Thoughts of Stoicism

斯多亚派学派在西方伦理思想史上有着特殊的贡献,其"顺应自然而生活"的理念影响了西方两千多年,为人类千百年来孜孜以求的永恒秩序增添了浓墨的一笔。人人都有理性,人人平等的口号在那个黑暗专制的年代,听起来是那样的美丽和激动人人心。人都有欲望和激情,但作为理性的人应当用自制、忍耐去克服那些不合理的要求。人顺应自然而生活,就会实现人的自由,人的意志自由就会和人的理性相统一。

Stoicism has made special contribution to the history of western ethical thoughts. The ideology of"to live ac- cording to nature"has influenced the western world in its history of more than two thousand years, adding a thick and dark- inked stroke to the permanent order persistently pursued for thousands of years by humanity. Man has rationality, the slogan of"everybody is equal"sounds fine and exciting in such a gloomy and automatic age. Though man has desire and enthusi- asm, a rational man should overcome through self-restraint and tolerance the requests considered irrational. To live according to nature will realize human’s freedom and integrate human volition and rationality.
