Varieties and the Gains from Trade:A Literature Review

自从垄断竞争模型由Krugman应用到国际贸易中以来,关于贸易是如何通过多元化渠道增加利得的问题已被广泛研究,但有关产品种类与贸易利得之间的内生互动的研究略显不足。如果种类作为福利增加的来源的重要性没有被适当地评估,任何旨在强调贸易利得的政策或者通过调节进出口贸易的影响以增进本国福利的政策,很可能将是误导。

Since Krugman applied the monopolistic competition model to international trade,many economists have done a lot of researches about how the gains from trade increase through a variety of channels.But there are few literatures about the endogenous interaction between varieties and the gains from trade.If the importance of varieties as one of the sources of the gains from trade is not appropriately assessed,any policies aimed at emphasizing the gains or increasing domestic welfare through adjusting the import and export trade are probably misleading.
