Vernacular Songs for Children is a ballad book intended to cultivate children's character and moral quality. According to the content, it can be divided into three parts. The book guides children to love the motherland,to be concerned about national affairs and to become useful citizens for the country. It not only cultivates children's character and enables them to become noble people with breadth of mind, but also educates children to be filial to their parents and have harmonious relationships with their brothers so that they can have strong sense of responsibility for their family and for society. The book emphasizes children's moral education which can be seen from the patriotism, love and loyalty to traditional culture shown in the book. The author pours his lofty ideals and firm convictions into the creation of the book, especially during a time of domestic trouble and foreign invasion for the country, which endows the book with more national spirit and significance of the times.
