Effect of Henan Students Studying in Japan on Modern Henan Society

在清末留日大潮的影响下,河南开始向日本选派留学生,其间先后有一批官吏、进士和青年知识分子或官费或自费赴日留学。他们在日本学习了先进的科学文化知识,接受了资产阶级民主主义和民主革命思想,并办报办学,传播新知、积极参与收回利权运动,成为推动晚清河南社会革新的一支重要力量。

Under the influence of studying in Japan,Henan government began to choose students to study in Japan. Therefore a number of officials,talents and young intellectuals went to study in Japan financially supported by themselves or the government.They learned advanced science and culture in Japan,accepted bourgeois democratic ideas and the democratic revolution and founding magazines to spread Bourgeois ideas to the general public,which had great influences on Henan society.In addition,the students took part in the movement of the recovery of railway rights and mining concessions to foreigners in China.The students were an important force of Henan society at the end of the Qing dynasty.
