青少年对父母保守秘密被界定为隐瞒闲暇时间的活动及活动衍生的私人信息。青少年对父母保守秘密是一把双刃剑。就个体发展而言,保守秘密是危险的,它与生理疾病、抑郁情绪、问题行为等密切相关,同时保守秘密却有利于青少年感情自主的发展。就亲子关系而言,保守秘密促进亲子关系转向平等,又可能导致亲子关系不良。研究者介绍了西方关于青少年对父母保守秘密的研究成果、方法、进展,以及研究焦点和现存问题。

Keeping secrets from parents is defined as concealing personal information about what adolescents did and where they went at their spare time. Adolescents' s keeping secrets from parents is a double-edged sword. From the perspective of individuals, keeping secrets is risky because it is closely related to physical complaints, depressive mood, problematic behavior and so on. In addition to that,But meanwhile keeping secret from their parents is beneficial to their independent emotion development. It facilitates parent-child relationship, turning it into a state pf equality, it however may cause poor parent-child relationship. This paper presents a review of western theories on this subject including, its achievements, methods, developments, research focus, and extant problems.
