Harold Pinter, the famous dramatist who is the representative of absurdists in Britain. The Dumb Waiter, one of Pinter's outstanding works in his early times, is composed by the meaningless chatting of the two main characters: Ben and Gus, which leads to the absurd artistic feature of Pinter's work. In this one-act drama, there are only Ben and Gus who are waiting in the basement for their so-called order to murder someone who they do not really know; neither do they have any actual knowledge about their future life. This essay will focus on the following three aspects: absurd but real language; absurd and fragmentary plot; absurd existence, to analyze the absurdity of The Dumb Waiter and explore the unique artistic characteristics of Pinter.
