翻译特性视域下汉语文化词语英译探析

An Analysis of the Translation of Culture-loaded Words in Chinese from the View of Translation Characteristics

翻译是以符号转换为手段,以意义再生为任务的一项跨文化交际活动。文化词语因负载独特的文化内涵,在翻译过程中困难较大。从翻译的五个特性,即社会性、文化性、符号转换性、创造性和历史性,来分析不同类型汉语文化词语的英译,且根据意义再生之三原则来探讨具体语境下汉语文化词语英译问题。提出在进行汉语文化词语英译时应综合考虑多种翻译特性,并根据去字梏、重组句、建空间三原则使意义再生。

Translation is a cross-cultural activity with symbol conversion as the means and rendering of meaning as the goal. With their special cultural connotation, Chinese culture-loaded words are difficult to translate. This thesis tries to analyze the five characteristics of translation, namely sociality, culture, the shifts of symbol, creativity and historic significance, and apply these features to the translation of different kinds of Chinese culture-loaded words.Besides, the translation of Chinese cultural words in different contexts is discussed on the basis of the three principles of meaning-rebuilt. It is pointed out that all characters of translation need to be taken into consideration in translating Chinese culture-loaded words and their meaning be rebuilt according to these three rules, namely transcending literal meaning, rebuilding sentences and reconstructing contexts.
