The Respective Influence of CPC and Left-wing Students in June 1st Massacre of Wuhan University in 1947

1947年6月1日,武汉军警全副武装包围武汉大学校园,大肆搜捕武大师生,造成3名学生被枪杀,多人受伤或遭逮捕,酿成轰动一时的"六一惨案"。惨案发生后,武汉大学、国民政府与中共地下党等多方力量围绕此事展开博弈。武大左翼学生在斗争中扮演了主力角色,武汉地下党也借此机会积极活动,但其所发挥的作用相当有限。

On June 1st 1947,the campus of Wuhan University was surrounded by local armed force. The university was wantonly raided,with 3 students gunned down,many more wounded and arrested,which became known as the shocking 'June 1st Massacre'. After the massacre,the university authorities,the students,the KMT government and the underground CPC all engaged themselves in dealing with the aftermath. It was the left- wing students of Wuhan University who played a main role in the struggle. While the underground CPC of Wuhan was active after the massacre,their influence was very limited.
