Imitation and Development of the Archetype of the Grateful Daughter of the Dragon in The Tales of Liu Yi

"龙女报恩"模式来源于佛经,《柳毅传》在继承"龙女报恩"故事架构的基础上,作了富有时代气息的新发展,即塑造了一个敢于运用智慧为自己命运做主的新龙女。以往对《柳毅传》中龙女形象的分析主要集中在龙女报恩或止步于对封建包办婚姻制度的反抗上,但"龙女报恩"故事经过中国化之后,已带有明显的人本色彩。

The tale of 'the grateful daughter of the dragon',though derived from the buddhist scriptures,was so popular and developed into an archetype. Based on the structure of this tale,The tale of Liu Yi made some alternations so as to suit the zeitgeist of that time. This story created a new image of the daughter of the dragon,who is brave and wise enough to make her own destiny.So in the past,analysis of the image of the daughter of the dragon in The tale of Liu Yi mainly concentrated on her gratitude and her resistance of the feudal arranged marriage system. But after modification of the story by Chinese people,it was evidently tinged with the spirit of humanity.
