The novel Cambridge written by Caryl Phillips, the contemporary British black novelist, reveals the survival status of black slaves in the West Indies after enactment of Slave Trade Act of 1807.Emily,the heroine of this novel, recorded her own experience in the West Indies in the form of diary and hoped to promote domestic black liberation movement with her diary.Emily’s diary seems fair and impartial, but it is full of whites’prejudice against black slaves actually. The unreliability of Emily’s diary will be analyzed from the perspective of narratology and the causes behind Caryl Phillips’choice of unreliable narrative will be further explored.
