The self images of Chinese in the oriental discourse severely hindered them from being accepted by American society. Therefore, the Chinese American literature rising in 1997s took it the main concern to break the deeply-rooted oriental illusions.Maxine Hong Kingston, one of the most influential Chinese American writers, tells the real story of Chinese, criticizes the images of 'the other' and redefines the Chinese American identity in her three works. The related study will help the foreigners to learn about Chinese culture, promote the cultural communication between China and America and take Chinese literature to the world.
