新感觉派作家穆时英关于上海都市的创作一直备受关注。但其前期的小说创作中对底层社会的苦难书写,则较少被细致关注,其创作更加关注都市上海底层社会的精神苦难。穆时英采用"现代派"技巧,以重复和陌生化的粗鄙语言,消解人物痛楚的叙事节奏,展现人物精神孤寂的苦难。以开放的叙事结局,引发读者关于人类孤寂背后信仰迷失的思考。

Novels about the urban life of Shanghai,and the sufferings of people living at the bottom of society in particular,written by MU Shi- ying,a representative of New Sensation School,have drawn wider attention than the author's early works revealing the distressed life of the lowest rung. The author adopted Modernity style of narration and some vulgar language to defamilarize the narrative rhythm and the spiritual isolation of modern people stranded in the loss of beliefs.
